A class action lawsuit claims Adidas tricked consumers into purchasing Adidas “adiPure” barefoot running shoes by falsely advertising they provide health benefits over traditional running shoes.

The lawsuit says the $90.00 adiPure barefoot shoes did not deliver the increased training efficiency and decreased risk of injury promised by the athletic behemoth and their advertisements. Instead, adiPure shoes actually increase risks for bruising and foot damage thanks to decreased padding and other structural differences.

Plaintiff Joseph Rocco says he and other class members were never warned about potential hazards. Rocco suffered compound fractures after training in adiPure shoes. He also claims Adidas has no proof to back up its health claims. Members seek a refund for the shoes and predetermined payments to compensate for injuries. Anybody who purchased adiPure shoes since they debuted in August 2011 are eligible for refunds and possibly more.

It's worth noting the American Podiatric Medical Association has warned consumers not to buy the barefoot running hype just yet, saying “research has not yet adequately shed light on the immediate and long-term effects of this practice.”
