CONFIDENTIAL v. CONFIDENTIAL
Area of Law: Civil Law
State Filed: California
Settlement: One-hundred-Forty-Seven thousand dollars
Settlement Amount: 147,000
My client was fired from her job because the boss thought she stole money. Although he had the right to fire her, he had no proof of the theft. He then reported her as the thief to his insurance company, who paid the alleged loss. The insurance company proceeded to sue my client for theft. The previous employer also contacted the client’s then-employer and told him that she was a thief. This caused the client’s termination from her new place of employment. When I became involved, we were able to obtain quick dismissal of the lawsuit against the client. We then filed a separate lawsuit against the first employer, the insurance company and the attorney representing the insurance company for malicious prosecution, defamation, slander, interference with economic advantage and other related claims. The case resolved within a few months for $147,000.
